Harlingen's wing of the World Bird Center is better known as Hugh Ramsey Park. Although it is in proximity to Harlingen's airport and a major interstate, it remains a safe-haven for birds like the Green and Ringed Kingfishers, Common Pauraque, Grooved-billed Ani, Long-billed Thrasher, Olive Sparrow, and the endangered Red Crowned Parrots.
During my visit to the park, I was fortunate enough to witness a bird and a snake in what appeared to be a fight. To my surprise, the extremely small bird was the aggressor. On that same trail I also enjoyed watching a rabbit in search of a meal. Although I enjoyed visiting the park alone, I strongly recommend visiting the park with at least another person. The heavy brushed trails are great for bird watching, but not for security. The trail is also a decent place to hike and bike.
