Young Democrats at UTPA

The Young Democrats at UTPA was established in the 1960s, with the sole purpose of teaching others at the University and in the community about the Democratic Party and its principles. Today the group has become an influential campus organization. You will see the group block-walking, at phone banks, doing volunteer work, working with other democratic organizations on county, state and national levels, and hosting guest speakers.
In 2008, the Young Democrats helped host Barack Obama during his presidential campaign. The president of the Young Democrats, Amber Arriaga, remembers hearing Obama's campaign manager say, "Ok guys, are you ready? This is going to be the next President of the United States!"
