Founded in 2008, the Rio Grande Valley Bulldog Club is quickly growing in numbers. This non-profit organization focuses on bringing bulldog owners together, while at the same time educating the community on the uniqueness of a raising a bulldog.
I visited the group on November 08, 2009 at their temporary location (until McAllen's Dog Park opens) at Dr. Pablo Perez Elementary School on Trenton and Main in McAllen. You couldn't find a friendlier collection of people and a more excited group of dogs. There were bulldogs of all colors, shapes and sizes. All these dogs were common in breed, but different in personalities.
The part that I enjoyed the most was watching the welcoming party every time a new dog entered the area. It was almost like a call that was sent out, "all dogs report to the gate. We have a visitor!"
If you own a bulldog and are thinking about joining the group, I strongly recommend it. The group shares tips on breeding, raising a bulldog, and their funny stories about what their dog did. It is a great way for the owners to get their dogs to be more social.
Point of Contact: Samantha @ 457-4808 or Omar @ 207-6824.
Meeting Place: Dr. Pablo Perez Elementary School on Trenton and Main in McAllen. This will change once the new Dog Park opens up.
Meeting Time: 4:30-7 p.m. every Sunday
