Valley Living
The Rio Grande Valley, better known as "the Valley", adds a unique blend of spices to this great nation we like to call “the melting pot.” The Valley serves as a welcoming mat to those entering the U.S. from the south… and it does a great job as an ambassador.
Many locals are either first, second, or third generation U.S. citizens, thus creating an area that is heavily populated by Mexican Americans. Mexican Americans are Americans of Mexican descent. They account for 15% of the country's population and 87% of the Valley’s population.
Mexican Americans are a close-knit family. Most offspring don’t flock too far from the nest, therefore making the area one of the fastest growing areas in the country. The commitment to family life is evident when visiting a local sporting event or a family cookout.
The Valley’s unique flare comes from its people and its closeness to the Mexican border. The area provides a great place to eat, fish, hunt, shop, and vacation. The weather in the valley is so warm that most locals say it is either one of two temperatures, warm or warmer. The temperature is so inviting during the winter season that it attracts a great number of retirees to the area, Winter Texans. Also, the summer is a major attraction for vacationers to the Valley’s popular beach front property, South Padre Island.
It is these attributes that make living in the Valley a great experience.
