The moment I stepped foot inside The Boxing Gym on 112 East Cano (across from the Hidalgo County Courthouse) in Edinburg, I knew I was entering a new era in fitness in the valley. The gym has all the charms a classic boxing gym should have without the intimidation of a fight club. It caters to those that are bored of traditional exercises and want to experience something new (read about boxing as a workout).
The gym's lure comes from the near perfect layout from owner Jaime Garza. The gym not only offers boxing equipment, but free weights, cardio equipment, and boxing classes for all ages. The fact that the gym has no air-conditioning shows its commitment to fitness. The best part of the gym is that it has an automatic timing system that lets you know when to begin your round and when to end your round, which allows you to be independent of a trainer.
Gym Fees:
- 6 month contract ............... $145 per month
- 12 month contract ..............$95 per month
Gym Only: No classes
- 12 month contract ............... $49 per month
- 24 month contract ................$39 per month
